CCD-698 • Dissertation Research SeminarJuly 2026

First-Month Goals

Moving from proposal revision to defense readiness while preparing the research infrastructure for the next phase.

Course artifact. A July 2026 check-in from CCD-698, a doctoral seminar that has now ended, kept as presented. The proposal defense passed on August 13, 2026. For the current study, see the dissertation overview.

Starting point

The first month is a transition point

The proposal is substantially revised. My focus now is to make it defensible and ready for the next phase.

Current stateCommittee-ready proposal revision
Month-end outcomeA proposal I can explain and defend

Public research infrastructure

The dissertation already has a connected public ecosystem

The first-month goals build on repositories that make the argument, methods, evidence, and applications visible.

Start hereminerclass.github.io

These repositories document current and earlier proposal stages. They do not present dissertation findings or participant data, and the committee copy remains the controlling methodology.

Goal 1

Lock the committee-ready proposal

Complete one final consistency pass across Chapters One through Three.

Case definitionConfirm boundedness

Verify participant scope and consistent role labels throughout the proposal.

Methodological alignmentConnect the design

Check the alignment among research questions, data sources, and integration procedures.

Presentation qualityStabilize the copy

Review citations, appendices, figures, terminology, and formatting.

Completion criterionA stable committee copy with no unresolved design inconsistencies

Goal 2

Be ready to defend the study

Defense readiness requires both a clear explanation and practice responding under pressure.

Explain the studyBuild a concise defense deck

Center the problem, framework, methods, evidence, and contribution.

Defend the designPrepare and rehearse

Build an answer bank for likely questions, complete two timed rehearsals, and revise from feedback.

Research readiness

Prepare for responsible research

Build the compliance and documentation foundation before recruitment or data collection begins.

01Complete CITI

Finish the remaining research-compliance requirements.

02Map IRB materials

Identify the documents and approvals required for submission.

03Organize the audit trail

Connect questions, sources, analyses, memos, and decisions.

BoundaryNo recruitment or data collection before the required approvals

Work plan

The work moves through deliberate phases

Each phase produces a concrete handoff for the next.

Stabilize

Complete the final proposal consistency pass.

Build

Create the defense deck and likely-question answer bank.

Rehearse

Practice twice, revise, and consolidate the research-preparation materials.

July 30 checkpoint

Success by July 30 is concrete

I will evaluate progress through completed products and focused feedback.

Completed products
  • Committee-ready proposal
  • Defense slide deck
  • Likely-question answer bank
  • Two timed rehearsals
  • CITI completion
  • IRB and audit-trail map
Feedback I need
Is the methodology clear? Is the study feasible? Are the claims appropriately bounded?

A proposal I can defend and a research process I can carry forward responsibly.
