If you leave the trail uncalibrated, some will be gated by barriers they cannot bypass. If you offer a gondola shortcut (AI), others will fly to the top without doing any thinking. Your job is to scaffold the climb so everyone summits on their own feet.”

MMaya (Multilingual Learner)
A deep reasoner who gets halted by text-heavy reading blocks unless waymarked with translation support.
JJordan (Dysgraphia)
Understand the concepts but gets blocked at heavy writing switchbacks unless given a speech-to-text bridge.
SSam (Bypass-Defaulter)
A high achiever who will take the AI gondola shortcut to get a grade, bypassing all cognitive labor unless held accountable by checkpoints.
RRiley (Anxious Speaker)
Has excellent evidence but gets blocked by public presentation walls at the summit unless supported by structured peer talk.

When Maya or Jordan climb with translation or speech-to-text, the cognitive demand is untouched but the accessibility barrier is gone. They struggle productively, building lasting capacity.
Frictionless Bypass (Gondola)
AI generation (gondola) allows Sam to summit immediately, but his flag is hollow. He holds no durable understanding because he experienced no noetic friction.
Infrastructural Gating (Turnstile)
A blanket device ban (turnstile) blocks AI bypass but also cuts down accessibility bridges. Jordan and Maya are gated by system policies, not cognitive limits.
