Friction Audit Protocol

A guided audit for any AI-touched assignment. Six questions; a verdict on whether the task preserves productive struggle, bypasses learning, or blocks access. Nothing you enter is stored or transmitted.

Before you start

Think of one specific assignment or assessment in which students could plausibly use generative AI — an essay, lab report, source analysis, problem set, project. The audit asks what the task was designed to do, what AI changes, and what to redesign. It operationalizes one distinction: productive friction (difficulty that builds capacity) versus exclusionary friction (difficulty that blocks access without educational benefit).
