Evaluate the Past. Resist Hindsight.
A game of period worldview reconstruction for secondary students
You are a time-bound historian. You may judge the decisions of historical actors — but only with what the people there could actually have known and faced.
Hindsight is a trap. Evaluating the past using the knowledge, values, and outcomes of the present is called presentism. It turns complex history into simple, modern moralizing.
In this investigation, you will explore 4 critical historical dilemmas. In each scene, you must:
1. Assemble the context: Filter period-accurate knowledge from anachronisms (true details only known later) and value traps.
2. Appraise the choice: Pick the appraisal that matches the pressures and limitations of the period, refusing the comfort of hindsight.
