two axes, not one dial. · transcript

The 30-second animation above says the following, in order. If motion is reduced on your device, the animation waits for you to press play.

  1. Every assignment lives somewhere on this map.
  2. Across: how much the student has to think, argue, and stand behind. Productive challenge: the friction that makes learning durable.
  3. Up: how much gets in the way of showing it. Exclusionary barrier: language, time, transcription, anxiety, access.
  4. Four corners. One of them teaches. A wall is a different kind of obstacle, not a higher dose of a workout. When both axes are high (grind), ask which axis wins.
  5. When AI replaces the learner's work, the thinking moves elsewhere. The output can stay polished while the learner bypasses the work.
  6. Underneath it all: infrastructure. Policy, grading, and protected time decide whether a good design survives.
  7. Sort ten moves yourself. Untimed first; the sixty-second round is the replay. Friction Lab: minerclass.github.io/friction-game
